Something Fun For a Monday Morning

I was laying in bed last night listening to my ipod when I suddenly realized something was wrong. Three Bob Seger songs in a row! How can that be? I always have my ipod set to shuffle and statistically he would not come up that many times. I love the randomness of not knowing what song will play next. In fact, at one time I had playlists set up but have since deleted them because I never listened to them.

Now here is the fun part. What songs would I hear on your ipod if I set it to shuffle? Would it be something cool and edgy meaning you are oh so cool or would it be something embarrassing that would show just how geeky you are? See that is the fun part. With shuffle you can't control what is coming next. So set your ipod to shuffle and tell me what five songs come up and why they are in your music library.

. I will go first and I pray at least one cool song comes to the top. I have everything from Kid Rock to The Clarks to Kenny Chesney so who knows what will play. So here goes:

1. Jesus Take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood. I have quite a few of her songs and this happens to be one of my favorites. If you are a country fan this is a good one.

2. Pieces of April by Three Dog Night I am showing my age with this one. This was my favorite band while in high school and is my favorite song.

So far so good.

3.This One's For the Girls by Martina McBride. Another country song but that isn't surprising because I probably have more country music in my ipod than anything else.

4. Drift Off to Dream by Travis Tritt Country again. I see a trend here. One more chance to come up with something different.

5. One Tin Soldier by Coven Another oldie but goodie.

So give it a try and let me know what your ipod reveals about you.

Okay, I don't think anyone else will really know these, but these are mine.

1. Same Shade as Concrete - Circle Takes the Square. Probably the most thrash band I've ever heard, but completely scientific in their execution.

2. How Does it Feel - Avril Lavigne. Bleh. I can't stand her. I'm not sure why this is even on here.

3. All You Need Is Love - The Beatles. 'Nough said.

4. I Should Go - Rachel Farris. I bought her CD once thinking she was someone else. I ended up liking it, anyway.

5. Move On - Jet. One of my all-time favorite bands.

1. Light My Way by Audioslave
A short term 'supergroup' band that combined vocalist Chris Cornell (Soundgarden), along with neocommunist Rage Against the Machine members Drummer Brad Wilk, Guitarist Tom Morello, and Bassist Tim Cummorford

2. Sacred Lie by Disturbed
Not a bad song, a little hardcore, which is sort of my taste anymore.

3. Behemoth by Static-X
This is one of the strangest bands you will ever hear. In fact, none of you want to hear it; very hardcore.

4. One by Metallica
One of my favorite songs of all time. In fact, it won a Grammy. It was showcased on Metallica's album ...And Justice for All. It's essentially about a comatose patient coming back from a war and being able to hear and feel everything going on, but can't do anything about it. A very gentle song in the beginning, but gets harder toward the end.

5. White Moon by The White Stripes

Finally, a song you people would be able to stand to listen to. The White Stripes are very alternative, yet still rock. Stemming from Detroit it's a two member group...Jack White and Meg White (no relation). They just won the 2008 Grammy for best song Icky Thump .

So there you have it.

1. I Knew I Loved You - Savage Garden. It's been a long time since I listened to the song, but I'm still ridiculously in love with the band. Too bad they broke up.
2. My Precious - Lifehouse. I absolutely love the band. Jason Wade (lead singer) has a great voice and the lyrics of the songs are pretty poignant.
3. Send It Up - Vertical Horizon. One of my friends loaned me this CD once and I totally fell in love with the band. The lead singer's got a different-sounding voice, but the lyrics are really interesting.
4. Impossible - Christina Aguilera. No matter what kind of controversy this girl was stirring up at the time, you've got to admit she's got one heck of a voice. She'll always be one of my favorite artists.
5. False Pretense - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Very cool band, sort of new. Again with the amazing lyrics--I can't help it, I like good lyrics, apparently.

Notice, dear sister, that only the babies have responded. Here's my top 5 songs on my YouTube playlist:

1. What Kind of Gone - Chris Cagle

2. Sugar, Sugar - The Archies

3. I Have Been Blessed - Martina McBride

4. Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me - Kenny Chesney

5. You Can Go Your Own Way - Michael Johns from AI.

I have an MP3 player that MUST BE loaded prior to Florida. You can bet the above songs will be on it, of course playing in random order.

just to make you happy....

1) All of You-Vertical Horizon. At one point this was Tiff's favorite band, I dont have anything else to say about this.

2) Obsolete-Saves the Day. I like to run to this.

xxx) This is Not An Exit-Saves the Day. I am officially eliminating this song because I think my shuffle is broken to give me two songs from this band in a row when I don't have that much of it to begin with.

3a) Memory Motel- Dave Matthews Band. I hate DMB I dont know why this is on here.

4) Stronger-Britney Spears. Ouch, this one is potentially embarassing. But I do like to run to this too...

5) She Will Be Loved-Maroon 5. This is on one of my favorite albums.

I would just like to comment at least 50% of the songs on my iPod have to be country, I dont know where they all disappeared to. I would also like to add that I kept going to see where the country was. #6 was Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald-Gordon Lightfoot. Country finally made an appearance at #16 with You're in My Head-Brian McComas.

Aunt C-Isn't Who Wouldnt Wanna Be Me Keith Urban, not Kenny?

I have to think about this for a little bit.

Sugar Sugar, that is going to make me laugh all night.

mickey and john you lost me with your music. i hadn't even heard of some of those bands. now my age is showing.

savage garden. i was so hoping one of their songs would show up. i love that band too. i also wish they hadn't broken up.

what i find interesting is people having songs on their ipods they don't even like.

i also have sugar sugar in my ipod. how can you not like the archies?

You are correct, Sarah. It is Keith Urban. It was a toss up between that and one of Kenny's, but I'm saving it for a future blog. By the way, what is the name of yours so I can link to it. You could tell us what really happened at the Steelhead or just keep us updated on your training rituals. I find it all facinating.

I don't own an I-Pod or MP3 player but if I did these would be the first songs on it.

1. November Rain - Guns 'n Roses. This is possibly the best rock band ever put together. All their music is great. To bad they were such idiots.

2. Blue on Black - Kenny Wayne Shepherd. An artist not as well known as some others on this post. Give it a listen, especially the acoustic version.

3. Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi. One of the great hair bands of the eighties. I liked almost all their songs even though they were a bit commercialized at times.

4. Twilight Zone - Golden Earring. This may be the best song for cranking the volume up of all time. Give it a listen and turn it up, I guarantee it will knock the dust out of the far reaches of your house.

5. Centerfield or Fortunate Son - John Fogerty. You can call him John Fogerty, Credence Clearwater Revival or CCR I don't care he is one of the best song writers of all time.

Honorable Mention goes to Stranglehold by Uncle Ted Nugent. Say what you want but he goes on my list because he doesn't drink or do drugs and he loves America.

I have been racking my brain for the last hour trying to remember this band that deserves to be mentioned: Hootie and the Blowfish - Hold My Hand. Great band and great voice and took a lot of searching to find them.

I love Hootie. I saw them in a concert and thought they were fantastic.

Oh, do I love the White Stripes, John.
