"Any baseball is beautiful. No other small package comes as close to the ideal in design and utility. It is a perfect object for a man’s hand. Pick it up and it instantly suggests its purpose: it is meant to be thrown a considerable distance—thrown hard and with precision. Its feel and heft are the beginning of the sport’s critical dimensions; if it were a fraction of an inch larger or smaller, a few centigrams heavier or lighter, the game of baseball would be utterly different. Hold a baseball in your hand ... Feel the ball, turn it over in your hand; hold it across the seam or the other way, with the seam just to the side of your middle finger. Speculation stirs. You want to get outdoors and throw this spare object to somebody or, at the very least, watch somebody else throw it. The game has begun."

"Baseball is like church. Many attend few understand."
"God watches over drunks and third baseman."
"I believe in rules. Sure I do. If there weren't any rules, how could you break them?"
"I made a game effort to argue but two things were against me: the umpires and the rules."
"I never did say that you can't be a nice guy and win. I said that if I was playing third base and my mother rounded third with the winning run, I'd trip her up."
"I never questioned the integrity of an umpire. Their eyesight, yes."
"If you don't win, you're going to be fired. If you do win, you've only put off the day you're going to be fired."
"Show me a good loser and I'll show you an idiot."
"You argue with the umpire because there is nothing else you can do about it."
"Nice guys finish last."
"You don't save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it may rain."

And I just gave up a good post for a rainy day.
lol I have a bunch of baseball quotes too. It is the start of bb season so I had to use a couple. Plus I love this picture of D umpiring. He will be doing some college ball this spring and I hope to get some good pictures of him.
I like the picture too. He looks like an old cranky umpire.
Uncle Dino has some great form. However, that catcher didn't frame the ball in the center of his body. Tisk, tisk.
Excellent picture though.
If you look you will see his right knee is lower than his left. They are supposed to be even according to D. He is very picky about his stance.
