Central Park

The car was safely parked, at a rate of 40 dollars a day I might add, and we were ready to start exploring the city.

We spent all of our time in Manhatten, though there are four other bouroughs of New York City we could have explored. We were on 92nd street a few blocks east of Central Park. Looking at the map we were east of the lake you can see in Central Park. Our plan that day was to walk through the park and head down to Times Square. Eventually we planned on making our way back to the hotel so we could change and catch a show later that evening. Things didn't really work out as planned but more about that later.

First up, Central Park.

It wasn't what I expected it to be. I thought it would be flatter and more open than what we saw. It was designed by a landscape architect and occupies more than 700 acres. More than 1600 poor residents living in shanties, Irish pig farmers and German gardeners, were displaced to create the park. There are many walking and jogging paths that crisscross the park.

By this time I was getting hungry and Dave spares no expense when it comes to feeding me.

Needless to say, because it is a park there are lots of trees.

There is our destination, Times Square.

Nice pictures. FYI for future reference -- when you write something and save it for later, you need to change the date at the bottom when you post it.

When I was in New York we went to the Hard Rock Cafe by Times Square. When we left the Hard Rock we ventured to the area you see on TV all the time just to say we were there. We followed a homeless guy down the street and watched him pull half eaten McDonald's burgers out the garbage cans to eat. Across the street from us was a group of people chanting "Kill the whites, kill the white." Needless to say I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
