Rock and Roll Never Forgets

Like Bob Seger said, rock and roll never forgets and neither do I. Look what I found last week on the internet.

American Idol 7 finalist Jason Castro didn’t get voted out on Wednesday, but he’s ready to go home.
On Monday, well before the performance show, he told Entertainment Weekly, “What happens happens. I’ll sing and if people like it, they like it. And if they don’t, they don’t. I’m kind of ready to go home.”
He’s so ready to go home that he basically blew off practicing. The magazine reports that “his brother and a friend had visited over the weekend and that his Saturday meeting with Diamond had gone ‘really bad’ because he didn’t yet know his songs.”
(Entertainment Weekly)

Well, I'm kind of ready for you to go home too. Can we all now just agree that it is time for him to go?

Speaking of rock and roll, tonight's theme is the music from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So many choices. No excuses tonight that it isn't their kind of music. There should be something for everyone to choose from tonight. David Cook should be in his element. David A. will sing a song with a "message". Syehsa should go toward show-tune like songs and Jason, who knows what he will do? Maybe some hippy, dippy sixties music? And so....

This is American Idol! Ryan tells us that three of the four have been number one vote getters. Who Ryan? The Davids for sure. My other guess? Maybe Jason earlier in the competition. I wish they would identify the people they show in the audience. Who was that guy? Ryan introduces our guiding stars: Randy, Paula and Simon. Hey, is that Jason yawning? What is it with him? Ryan informs us that the judges will give their critiques after every performance this week. You can relax, Paula, it won't be so "hard" this week. And now Ryan shouts, "Long live rock!". Amen, brother, amen.

1. David Cook - "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran
I don't know this song but then again I don't know a lot of Duran Duran songs. David looks so comfortbable on the stage. Maybe too comfortable. Don't get complacent, David. Paula's on her feet! It is an OK performance for me. Randy just said the same thing. Paula said it left her with a big appetite. Huh? Simon thought it was good enough to get him through to the next week.

2. Syesha Mercado - "Proud Mary" by Tina Turner
Wow, she looks good tonight. This could be a tough song choice. Where's the tough choreography she was talking about? It's too screechy for me. She is no Tina Turner. Randy thought she was in the zone and that it was very nice. Paula says she looks like a star (I agree), ramble...ramble...ramble and it was magic. Simon says it was a slightly bad shrieky version of Tina Turner. That's what I said!

3. Jason Castro - "I Shot the Sheriff" by Bob Marley
He said there were actually a few songs on the list this week that he knew. Remember that, kids, those words will come back to haunt him. All of those songs to choose from and this is what he came up with? It is a strange performance but for once he looks like he is putting some effort into it. Randy said it sounded karaoke and was nothing special. Paula said he performed to the audience but it was nothing special. If Paula can't think of something good to say you are in trouble, Dreds. Simon said it was atrocious, Sorry! He doesn't know what he was thinking. Now Ryan and Paula are trying to build his confidence back up. Good luck with that. Confidence has to be earned and he didn't earn it with that performance.

4. David Archuleta - "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King
He can sing I will give him that. The audience loves it. Randy says he is the one guy trying to win the whole thing, that was hot! Paula says he delivered. Simon says he could have whistled and it would have sounded better than the last song.

I will have to give round one to David A. Come on, David Cook, I know you can do it. On to round two.

1. David C. - "Baba O'Reily" by The Who
He tells Ryan that the judges were right about the first song. He is two words into his second song and I already know that I like it. In fact, I love it! Randy agrees. Just be you, you were great. Paula wants more and is humbled to watch his soul. I don't make this stuff up, people. Simon, "Welcome back, David Cook".

Hey, Rascall Flatts is in the house. Yea!

2. Syesha - "A Change is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke
I like this better than her first song. Randy doesn't agree, he thought it fell flat. Paula is standing and applauding, she calls her a superstar. Simon says he has to be fair and agrees with.......Paula! Let's hope the voters are fair too.

3. Jason - "Mister Tambourine Man" by Bob Dylan
He can't be any worse than he was singing his first song of the night. I don't believe it! He forgot the words. I thought he said he knew the songs this week. Should have practiced more is all I can say. Randy says he isn't in the zone tonight. Paula says it is what it is. Wiser words were never spoken, Paula. Simon tells Jason to pack his suitcase. From his mouth to God's ear is all I can say.

4. David A. - "Love Me Tender" by Elvis Presley
It is very well done but it does nothing for me. Randy thought it was another great performance. He had the hot vocals of the night. Paula felt his heart. @@ Simon said he didn't beat the competition, he crushed the competition. I wouldn't go that far.

The night belonged to the two Davids. I lean toward David Cook because I find his voice and the kind of music he sings more appealing. But I have to admit David A was very good tonight. Good, but kind of boring. It comes down to Syesha or Jason on the bottom. If things are fair, Jason will be going home tomorrow. But strange things can happen between the performance and the results show. Who knows whose fan base will show up to dial those phones?

I was just rereading my post and had to laugh. My title is "Rock and Roll Never Forgets". Hahaha, but Jason does!!! How funny is that! Sometimes I crack myself up.

And now on to my favorite performance of the night. Rock on, David C!

how come you said that David C sang Baba O'Riley by The Who, yet in the video he clearly wasn't...

I didn't hear any Teenage Wastelands in there. Hmmm, is it obvious yet that I don't watch the show?

Are you sure? I don't know the song but that is what everyone is saying it is called. He does sing "teenage wastelands" numberous times.

Now I am going to have to go to youtube and listen to the original.

Dreds needs to leave. Syesha is giving it her all but maybe too late to catch up with the Davids. I'm tired of message-man. Good vocals but lacks maturity. We'll see how the teeny boppers voted tonight.

BTW - I'm ready to forget Dreds.

The song I listened to was Baba O'Riley, did you already change it?

I didn't really care for his rendition of it though.

i didn't change anything. i'm thinking peej has listened to too much of that "music" of his and now doesn't recognize anything of quality.

btw, i liked his rendition and will be downloading his studio version of the song
