Same thing that happened in the Great Depression. Manufacturers overproduced appliances like refrigerators, not realizing that people aren't just going to go out and buy new refrigerators after they already have one. Inventories started piling up, racking up enormous surpluses. They need to enter Chapter 11, liquidate their inventories, and consolidate dealerships and double-makes. By double-makes I mean, why do they make both a Chevrolet Silverado AND a GMC Sierra? It's the same damn truck!
